Daily Victories

I began a journey yesterday, well two years ago I began the journey, but one day ago I turned a corner and started running. Two years ago I broke my leg, in four places, from falling down a stair, not stairs, one stair, one step was all it took and I was down. My leg broke in 4 different places, requiring surgery, a titanium plate, and several screws, and three months of absolutely no walking. My fall wasn't severe enough to have caused this kind of break, what caused this break was the 200 extra pounds I was carrying around on my body, all of which land on my leg as it bent back. It was a wake up call. I needed to get rid of this extra weight, I started dieting, exercising a little more and watching my weight better. But almost two years later and I've barely lost 60 pounds. Its not happening as quickly as it should, I had lost the fire and passion that I began with.

Several of my coworkers and friend started talking about Crossfit, which after hearing stories, and seeing injuries, seemed outrageous and crazy. Even with urging and promises that I could do it, my brain was somehow determined that I would not be able to handle the workouts. In fact my excuse was somewhere along the lines of  "It seems like Crossfit is built for fit people, who want to tone themselves out, not someone simply trying to loss weight."

Last week I had a "Forget that, I'm doing this!" moment. Yesterday, I turned a corner on my journey to healthy living and started running towards the goal, leaving the meandering walk behind. After my first session with Jo at the local Crossfit gym, my brain was brimming with new words, new methods, and new techniques, then this morning even more were added to that list by Nick. Words like dead lift, good mornings, pass throughs, kettle balls, and presses (plus loads of other things that I can't remember the names for, like that planky, sorta pull up thing that I did with the rings...). Words that all have meanings that I already knew, but were suddenly brand new things I'm being introduced to.

Yesterday Jo ended the session talking about the pyramid that was painted on the wall, the base being "Nutrition" (with other things leading to the top, that have already left my brain...) Food has always been my down fall, my meals usually consist of what my sister jokingly refers to "poor people food." I buy what I can afford, which consists of a lot of prepackaged frozen food, noodles, rice, canned stuff and bread. Jo challenged to take one meal, and cut out all the whites from that meal, no pastas, breads, et cetera.
I'm also making daily goals, goals that I can accomplish and put down as "Daily Victories." So, everyday I will be posting my Daily Victories. Sometimes with a couple extra paragraphs, other times simply the goal. I'll also be telling you all about this crazy crossfit journey I am now on.

Today's Victories: Crossfit in the morning (50 wall balls), no whites breakfast and I said no to the pasta at dinner (even if I said yes to the brownie after dinner)
